Tips For Getting a Quality Security Door

Security doors are an important addition to your home, especially if your locality has a lot of intruders. Choosing a good security door requires that you look out for specific features highlighted below.

Material Composition

You might mostly come across two types of materials: aluminium and steel. Aluminium may not have as good of an impact resistance as steel. If your locality is prone to burglars, a steel security door might offer you better burglar-proof services than aluminium. You can maybe use aluminium if you want to combine steel bars and a grille; the grille can be made from aluminium (you might need such a design if you do not want a completely solid security door). In terms of costs, you might find a steel door being cheaper than an aluminium one.

If you like the appearance of wood, it would take extremely thick wood to give you a secure door. Additionally, to give you long service, a wooden door needs to be maintained regularly (application of insect repellents and a waterproof coating). Wood is also expensive, so be ready to spend quite a lot on the thick wooden door. If you like the wooden aesthetics and can't afford a wooden door, you can have the steel security door finished to resemble wood.

Hinges and Locking Mechanism

Getting a robust security door without quality and strong hinges and a locking mechanism is, of course, pointless. A burglar can access your home by breaking the hinges or locks. When you are installing the security door, find the kind of hinges that are considered impenetrable and apply them. Do the same for the locks. You might hear of a three-point security locking system; this simply means bolting the top, middle and lower sections of the opening side of your door. You should also invest in a good padlock that makes it difficult for a burglar to break or produce a master key.

Reinforce Your Security Door

Install a security alarm system to deter burglars. Even if you think your security door is impenetrable, don't allow a determined intruder to test it out. The sight of an alarm system can put him or her off.

During Purchase

When you are purchasing a security door, you need to ask certain questions, such as the following:

What highly impact-resistant doors do you have in stock? Confirm that they are made from steel.

What types of locking systems and hinges do you have, and how impenetrable are they?

What kind of finishes do you offer?

You should also look for numbers engraved on the security door. These numbers indicate that the security door has met the Australian standards of security doors; the numbers should start with the letters AS.
